InSite recently undertook the study of the opportunities for pedestrianization as a result of a proposed revision of road layouts, for a sample area of downtown Abu Dhabi.  

The study aimed to respond to the rationalization of the arrangement of the right of way, travel and frontage lanes, to accommodate a bus rapid transit (BRT) route. We wanted to capitalize on the additional public realm this produced to create a more interconnected, safer and thermally comfortable streetscape in the core of the city.  The end-product was a design that reinvigorates the city centre whilst promoting better health and wellbeing for its users.
